Instagram

Instagram gives users the opportunity to follow other users’ photo streams as they post them and you can be followed back by those users (or other users) as well. Using the “Profile” icon located on the lower menu of the Instagram screen you can search for friends by name or find friends who are already connected to you on other social networks like Facebook or Twitter.
When you decide to follow a user, that user’s Instagram photos will appear in your feed, which can be found under the “Feed” icon on the lower menu. You can press “Like” on any photo to let someone know that you admire their photography, or you can leave a comment.

When you take photos using the Instagram app, they will always appear in the feeds of the users who are following you. You can browse through the “Explore” tab to find new users to follow and creative photos to look at.

Taking Photos and Applying Photo Filters

Once you’ve taken a photo or selected one from your device, it can be edited by applying the effects and filters on Instagram. Any photos that you take on your phone, for example, can be uploaded to Instagram by using the “share” option that comes up for each photo.
Then go to Instagram, to the photo edit section and create the desired effects.
Use the diagram below to navigate around the Photo Edit screen:

1. Tap Library to choose a different photo.
2. Tap Next if you’re satisfied with your image in order to continue to add a caption, location & share.
3. Tap Tap to rotate your image.
4. Tap borders to turn borders on and off.
5. Tap linear to choose between a liniar ( – ), radial ( o ), or no tilt shift.
6. Tap lux turn Lux on or off. Read more about Lux here.
7. If you’d like to apply a filter, select one from the tray. Swipe to the side to see additional filters.

Instagram currently has the following photo filters to choose from:
• Amaro
• Rise
• Hudson
• X-pro II
• Sierra
• Lo-fi
• Earlybird
• Sutro
• Toaster
• Brannan
• Inkwell
• Walden
• Hefe
• Valencia
• Nashville
• 1977
• Kelvin

Each one of your photos can be previewed using the various effects. Choosing the green checkmark will set the filter that is chosen. Then, the next screen on Instagram is where sharing on other social networks can be arranged and where a caption can be added to the photo.

Sharing Instagram Photos on the Web

Instagram can be configured so that photos will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr or sent by email. By configuring Instagram in this way – setting everything to “On”, then all of the Instagram photos will automatically be posted to your social networks when “Done” is pressed.
On Instagram the social network configuration page is always presented for each photo and if you don’t want your photo shared on any particular social network the configuration can be changed by choosing “Off”.

In addition, the “Add to your Photo Map” function could be chosen to tag the location at which the photo was taken and this would be added to your personal Instagram Photo Map. Then “Name this location” could be chosen to attach the name of the venue at which the photo was taken.
Other Instagram users will still be able to view your photos in their feeds, if they follow you. To prevent photos from being seen they will have to be deleted from Instagram.
