Facebook was founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and fellow Harvard students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. In 2008 Facebook had 100 million users and as of March 2013 has 1.11 Billion.

Facebook is the largest online social network and the numbers are AMAZING.

Facebook has 1.11 billion active monthly users with 700 million of them using Facebook every day.

There are 680 million users, (78% of USA Facebook users are using mobile devices to view Facebook according to TechCrunch), who view Facebook on a mobile device.

The average number of posts per user per month is 36 and there are 150 billion friend connections. There are 1.13 trillion Facebook likes and the average Facebook user has liked 40 times.
The average Facebook visit is 20 minutes or 8.3 hours per month. 25% of Facebook users check their accounts five or more times each day.

That’s a lot of action folks! But wait, there’s more.

There are more than 2 billion connections between local businesses and people. In the USA 70% of active Facebook users are engaged and connected to a local business.
In an average week there are more than 645 million views on local business FB pages and over 13 million comments about them.

82% of buyers say that they trust a company more when its CEO and senior leadership team are active in social media. Get this – 36% of executives say that their CEO either cares little or not at all about the company’s reputation in the social media!

People engaged in marketing take Facebook very seriously – 62% of business to business markerters say that they have generated leads via Facebook.

Of the small businesses that use social media, 93% say that they have found that it is an effective marketing tool.

90% of Inc. 500 companies in the USA use at least one major social network platform – most often Facebook.
